Jerrell “Jerry” Voorhees passed on March 1, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer’s/Dementia. For many years Jerry was a fixture in the D.C. jazz scene, both listening and playing his beloved vibraphones with the Annapolis Jazz Trio. Jerry also spent a season in Nashville, playing regularly at the Sunday jams at Windows on the Cumberland, and performing with his good friends Diane and Frank Marino. Jerry was an avid sailor, spending much time on the Chesapeake Bay and Old Hickory Lake. Jerry is survived by his son, Jerrell “Jay” Voorhees Jr., and two granddaughters, Grace and Anna.
A concert and reception in celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Hickory Country Club (located at 1904 Old Hickory Blvd, Old Hickory, TN 37138). His friends Diane and Frank, along with some special guests, will be performing, and food and a cash bar* will be available for refreshments. Anyone who loves jazz and/or who knew Jerry or knows Jay is invited to come join the celebration.
Jerry loved music very much, and felt greatly supported by Frank and Diane, so we will be receiving donations at the event to help them complete Diane’s new recording project. Jerry would get a gas out of being and executive producer on her album! If you can’t attend, you can make a donation by visiting https://www.gofundme.com/jerryvoorheesfund.
*While it’s called a “cash bar”, in fact the Old Hickory Country Club only takes credit or debit cards for purchases, so plan accordingly.
