Nine Long Months

Father & Child by Michael Collin Shaw www.shawart.comMother cradles baby at her breast.
Father looks on anxious, and wishes they would rest.
A long and sleepless night has come and gone,
and now these tired parents have a son.

For nine long months they’ve waited
for this long tiring night.
For nine long months they’ve waited,
just to see this sight.
They would not have traded
all the money on the earth
to give up all the glory of this birth.

Father goes and reaches for the child.
Mother gives him to him, and gives a little smile.
The father feels so awkward with this one;
this tiny little baby that’s his son.

For nine long months he’s waited
for this long tiring night.
For nine long months he’s waited,
just to see this sight.
He would not have traded
all the money on the earth
to give up all the glory of this birth.

The angels in heaven
look down from above.
They know that this baby
is the hope of God’s love.

For nine long months they’ve waited
for this long tiring night.
For nine long months they’ve waited,
just to see this sight.
They would not have traded
all the money on the earth
to give up all the glory of this birth.
