A couple of busy days have kept me from writing. I have to get ready for our Leadership Retreat in a half hou, but need to reflect a bit.
Joan Chittister quotes the Tao in her commentary on The Rule of St. Benedict. The Tao says, “We join spokes together in a wheel, but it is the center hold that makes the wagon move.” This place of centering, both personally and corporately, is perhaps the greatest lack in Christian practice today. We are so spread out, pulled by the winds of this teacher or that philosopher, this news report and that advertisement, that we rarely look toward the center for our bearings. Of course, many of us (and many, many churches, are lacking a center point which allows the church to move ahead.
May God reveal to me the hub around which my ministry, and our churches ministry may rotate.
